The former glamour model, 47, is now set to appear on screen for the first time in the series, which is currently filming its second and third seasons. This comes after Katie publicly expressed her heartbreak at being excluded from filming around her daughter's 18th birthday celebrations last year, alleging that Princess's management team had prevented her involvement.
A source close to the production confirmed the news, stating: "Katie has been filming some scenes for the new series of The Princess Diaries." They elaborated to The Sun, explaining her role will involve "various video calls with her daughter, like on FaceTime and stuff, so she will have a presence in the upcoming episodes."

The insider emphasised the turnaround, noting: "It's quite the turnaround as Katie was banned from appearing last time around, but she is a huge part of Princess's life, and both Princess and Kate wanted her mum to be in the show." Previously, on her own podcast, Katie had lamented, "Everyone knows she's doing this documentary - and I'm not in it," pointing the finger at "Certain people that used to look after me."
Reports at the time suggested Katie was left "very hurt" by the initial snub, with concerns that her involvement might cause Princess to feel "caught between her two parents."
