Love Island: All Stars viewers were left squirming in their seats and flooding social media with criticism after witnessing what many dubbed an excruciatingly awkward first kiss between contestants Jack Keating and Whitney Adebayo. The moment, which aired on Monday night's episode of the ITV2 show, has sparked a wave of fan predictions that the pair's romance is doomed from the start.
The 'Cringe-Worthy' Moment That Divided Fans
The long-awaited kiss finally happened outside of a challenge in the South African villa. After Whitney pulled Jack, the son of Boyzone star Ronan Keating, for a chat, their conversation turned to their physical connection. Jack pointed out, "We must be the only couple right now who hasn't kissed outside of a challenge," prompting a surprised Whitney to ask if he wanted a kiss. After he agreed, she gave him permission, leading to the smooch that left audiences cold.
Immediately after pulling apart, Whitney joked that it "wasn't bad," and quipped about Jack going viral because her lipstick had smudged on his moustache. However, the subsequent high-five and perceived lack of chemistry had fans at home reaching for the remote.
Social Media Erupts with Criticism and Predictions
The reaction on platform X, formerly Twitter, was swift and brutal. One disillusioned viewer wrote: "I’m sorry but I don’t buy Whitney and Jack at all.. these couples feel so forced." Another expressed their disappointment, stating: "I’m soooo disappointedddddd the kiss between Jack and Whitney had sm potential but the high five after made me cringe sm, they are not feeling it I fear."
Others analysed the body language, with a third commenter noting: "Whitney’s body language is not convincing me with Jack at all." The consensus was clear, with a fourth viewer summarising the scene as "the most awks thing ever." While a fifth offered a slightly gentler take, calling it a "sweet moment," the overwhelming fan verdict was one of second-hand embarrassment and scepticism about the couple's longevity in the competition.
Show Returns After Wildfire Delay
The All Stars series, which brings back former Islanders like series seven's Millie Court and series nine's Shaq Muhammad for another shot at love, finally aired after an unexpected delay. Production was temporarily shut down and the villa evacuated due to safety concerns from South African wildfires. ITV postponed transmission, prioritising health and safety, before confirming the show's return last Wednesday.
The episode also featured the results of the first public vote, which saw couples including Sean and Belle Hassan, and Tommy and Jess Harding, officially paired. However, it was the unconvincing romance between Jack, who spent just five days in the villa in 2022, and Whitney, the 2023 series runner-up, that stole the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Love Island: All Stars continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
