Married at First Sight UK participant Bailey Smith has unexpectedly disclosed that the name viewers came to know him by during the show isn't his actual legal name. The 36-year-old sales manager, originally from St Albans but now living in Brighton, made the revelation during a recent BBC Radio Sussex interview, joking that "the secret is out of the bag now!"
The Truth Behind the Name
Taking to his Instagram Stories earlier this week, Bailey shared a screenshot of an article referring to him as Bailey Smith, captioning it with crying laughing emojis and writing "I can't shake this Bailey 'Smith' name." He followed this with a video clarification, explaining: "Right we need to clear up this name nonsense by the looks of it. Right, just for the record, no I do not want to be called David! Yes, my full name is David Bailey, but everyone has always called me Bailey forever."
The reality star elaborated that the only person who calls him David is his mother when he's in trouble, and he emphatically stated his preference remains Bailey rather than David Bailey or Bailey Smith.
Heartbreak in the Public Eye
This personal revelation comes amidst Bailey's ongoing processing of his very public split from his MAFS UK wife, Rebecca Fenney. The 32-year-old aesthetics nurse from Liverpool and Bailey had shared heart-warming final vows on the programme but confirmed their separation approximately one month after filming concluded.
During his radio interview, Bailey spoke candidly about the challenges of their breakup, stating: "I have loved every minute of it. But it's been tough. Going through heartbreak in the public eye has been quite difficult. It took me a while to take the ring off, [if] I am honest."
He also hinted that there's more to come, mentioning another reunion episode is scheduled and that he's currently "very much single" and going through a "bit of healing time."
Following the show's conclusion, Bailey shared a lengthy Instagram post addressing both the split and false online allegations. He wrote: "Unfortunately it's time to share that Bec and I are no longer together... I still have a lot of love for Bec and I'm grateful for the amazing relationship we shared. I had fallen for Bec completely and it really was a true love story."
He specifically denied ever cheating on Rebecca, stating: "I want to make it very clear, I never cheated on Bec at any point. I didn't handle our break up well and for that I'm truly sorry to Bec, but I was completely loyal the whole way through our relationship."
Rebecca addressed their separation more succinctly on her own social media, simply writing: "To answer all the questions... Yes, he fumbled."
