The latest episode of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins delivered another brutal blow as three more recruits withdrew from the gruelling selection process, bringing the total number of stars who have quit the current series to a staggering nine.
Emotional Exits as Pressure Mounts
The Sunday night broadcast on Channel 4 saw the departure of Neighbours icon Ryan Moloney, 46, former England cricketer Graeme Swann, 46, and Gladiators star Toby Olubi, 38. Their exits followed a series of intense challenges that have pushed the celebrity contestants to their absolute limits in a UK versus Australia format.
The most poignant exit came from Ryan Moloney, famed for playing Jarrod 'Toadie' Rebecchi. He made the difficult decision to withdraw after breaking down in tears, openly discussing his struggle with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and confessing to fellow recruits that he was "mentally spiralling."
"I can't remember if I've taken my medication twice or not. I can't remember what happened to my knife and fork," he said, describing his thoughts as "uncontrollable" while being comforted by Love Island winner Dani Dyer.
In a later interview, Moloney explained, "My brain does not switch off. I could be absolutely dog tired and I do not go to sleep." The show's producers called in the on-site psychiatrist, who advised that continuing in his current state could leave him "ruined." After a conversation with directing staff member Jason 'Foxy' Fox, Ryan chose to withdraw, with Foxy supporting his decision as the right move for his long-term wellbeing.
Injuries and Tough Decisions
Graeme Swann, the former England spin bowler, was the next to leave after sustaining an arm injury during a challenge. Drawing on his sporting career, he stated he "accepted the risks" of getting hurt. His parting words to the training team were blunt: "It’s been amazing, it’s been emotional, f*** me, you can break people can’t you."
Finally, Toby Olubi, known as Phantom on the rebooted Gladiators, exited following a demanding hostage rescue task. His departure rounded off a dramatic episode that significantly depleted the remaining recruits.
A Cast Decimated by Challenges
This latest trio of exits comes just one week after the show saw four other celebrities quit or be medically withdrawn. Last week's episode featured a punishing challenge that required stars to climb 27 flights of stairs rapidly with heavy backpacks.
That task led to the medical withdrawal of actor Axle Whitehead, 45, due to neck pain and arm numbness. YouTuber Cole Anderson-James, 28, voluntarily quit, earning a fierce rebuke from Jason Fox who called him a "f***ing waste of space." Australian cricketer Brad Hodge, 51, also withdrew, and social media star Jack Joseph, 25, struggled immensely from the outset.
Their departures followed the earlier exits of MAFS Australia star Jessika Power and actress Natalie Bassingthwaighte, making the current series one of the most attritional in the show's history.
Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Sunday at 9pm on Channel 4.
