Former barrister and crime writer Harriet Tyce has publicly addressed her dramatic on-screen outburst during the latest episode of BBC One's The Traitors, describing her behaviour as "awful". The 53-year-old contestant, who was banished from the show on Wednesday night, has also issued an apology to fellow Faithful Roxy.
An Explosive Showdown and Banishment
Harriet's exit followed a tense confrontation at the breakfast table, where she was labelled 'rude and erratic' by her fellow contestants. Convinced that Rachel Duffy was a Traitor, Harriet used her legal skills to present evidence at the roundtable. Her attempt to expose Rachel backfired, however, leading to her own banishment from the game.
Reflecting on the incident, Harriet told Metro: "Unfortunately, and I’m not proud of it at all, I did lose my temper and I really wish I hadn’t. I wish that it had gone a different way." The clash escalated when Roxy tried to intervene, prompting Harriet to shout back. Looking back, Harriet admitted feeling terrible about watching the scene.
Making Amends and the Pressure of the Game
Harriet confirmed that she and Roxy have since met and spoken. She sent Roxy another message while watching the episode air, stating: "God, this is awful. I’m so sorry… that I shouted. I really wish I hadn’t". She attributed her reaction to being deeply immersed in the high-stakes game.
"I was so deep in the game though," she explained. "She said she was deep in the game, too, and it was a hard watch for her… I was definitely worse, don’t get me wrong, but there was a lot of emotion going on." Harriet believes the incident highlights the intense pressure of the format, noting that some people handle stress better than others.
A Life Beyond the Castle
Away from the reality TV spotlight, Harriet Tyce leads a remarkable life. An Oxford University graduate and daughter of a Lord and judge, she followed her father into law before leaving after a decade, citing a battle with alcohol abuse and a desire to focus on her family.
In 2021, the tragedy of losing her best friend, journalist Sarah Hughes, to breast cancer motivated Harriet to get sober and pursue her writing career. Unlike many contestants, Harriet had no financial need to win the show's cash prize. She and her husband, City trader Nathaniel Tyce, are estimated to be worth £15 million.
Harriet had always planned to donate any winnings to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in memory of Sarah. The couple live in a large Highbury townhouse, and Nathaniel is reported to earn around £3.5 million a year as head of global markets at Nomura.
The Traitors continues on BBC One and iPlayer.
