In a stunning reversal of fortune on BBC's The Traitors, fan favourite Harriet Tyce was dramatically banished after a tense confrontation with fellow contestant Rachel Duffy. The 53-year-old crime novelist, who was last week tipped to win the series, saw her game end during Wednesday's roundtable, cementing Rachel's seemingly untouchable status.
A Calculated Accusation Backfires
Harriet's downfall began at breakfast, where she openly branded Rachel a Traitor in front of the entire group, echoing a similar, failed move by the recently banished Fiona Hughes. Harriet, a former criminal barrister and published author of psychological thrillers, had just revealed her true profession to the players. Confident in her deduction, she told Rachel, "You look amazing tonight. I'd say dressed to kill," before laying out her case at the roundtable.
She argued that Rachel had been "in character" since the game's first blindfolded meeting. However, her strategy unravelled when Rachel, 42, countered with a secret weapon of her own. Rachel disclosed that she had spent months being trained by a former FBI agent in analysing micro-expressions and detecting lies. "I have profiled every single one of you," she told the group, a revelation that swiftly swung opinion in her favour.
The Explosive Showdown and Dramatic Exit
Seeing the tide turn against her, Harriet made a final, desperate play. She asked the group to vote her out to prove her loyalty as a Faithful, a request they promptly granted. Her banishment was preceded by a fiery exchange where Harriet was labelled "rude and erratic" by others.
The conflict escalated when Harriet repeatedly interrupted Rachel's defence at breakfast. Fellow contestant Roxy Wilson stepped in, saying, "Rachel was speaking," which only provoked Harriet to scream back, "The benefit is to set the cat amongst the pigeon, Roxy!" The heated moment highlighted the intense pressure within the group.
The Traitors' Secret Deal and Future Murders
The dramatic events followed a major twist in Friday's episode, where Harriet, Rachel, and Matthew Hyndman won a chance to question the Traitors. Unbeknownst to Harriet, Rachel was actually answering the questions as a Traitor, not asking them.
While Harriet focused her queries on Rachel, Matthew Hyndman cut a daring deal. After the Traitors revealed via a secret note that they planned to murder contestant Jessie Roux, Matthew proposed an audacious pact. He asked them to refuse a future "seduction" opportunity from host Claudia Winkleman, murder Jessie instead, and then seduce him next time. The Traitors, Rachel and Stephen Libby, agreed.
As the episode concluded, viewers saw the Traitors deliberating their next murder victim, with Jessie, James Baker, and Adam Waughman in their sights. However, with two players shielded from murder after a mission, the Traitors' plans could be thrown into disarray, setting the stage for more high-stakes drama in the Scottish castle.
