GMB Viewers Fume Over 'Pointless' Royal Debate as Harry Kingship Row Ignites

Good Morning Britain viewers have expressed fury, branding a segment "pointless" and "scraping the barrel," as a heated debate over Prince Harry's potential to be King erupted live on-air. During Friday's episode of the ITV breakfast show, presenters Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh returned to screens, covering top stories from the UK and beyond, but it was a royal discussion that sparked controversy.

Fiery Exchange Over Diana's Alleged 'Good King Harry' Comments

The debate intensified as royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams and cultural commentator Ateh Jewel joined the show to delve into claims that Princess Diana once thought Prince Harry could one day be King instead of Prince William, reportedly calling him "Good King Harry." According to journalist Richard Kay, a close friend of the late Princess of Wales, Diana had alternative plans for Harry due to Prince William's "shy" nature in his youth.

Richard Fitzwilliams disagreed, insisting that Harry is "too emotional" and incapable of handling such a high-profile role. He explained, "I think Diana may well have thought it, but one has to bear in mind, magical though she was, she was also deeply emotional and very often erratic. We saw that tragically at the end of her life in 1997, when Harry was only 12."

He continued, "The King of England is one of the most high-profile jobs in the world, alongside the Pope and the President of the United States. Harry is deeply emotional and traumatised by his mother's death; he has said a click of a camera can disturb him. He couldn't possibly handle it."

Ateh Jewel Defends Harry's Resilience and Modern Appeal

Ateh Jewel snapped back in defense, stating, "I have been Team Harry and Meghan for years, and I think they represent a very diverse, modern Britain. I'm very proud to be British, Nigerian, and have Trinidadian heritage." She highlighted Harry's military service and integrity, adding, "This is a prince who has put his body and life on the line in active duty, shown huge grit, resilience, and steel. To say he couldn't handle it is ridiculous."

Viewer Backlash: 'Waste of Airtime' and 'Rage-Baiting'

As the pair clashed, viewers took to social media to slam the segment, with many calling it irrelevant. One viewer tweeted, "What a ridiculous rage-baiting irrelevant topic of conversation. #GMB." Another fumed, "What a waste of airtime. Harry will never be King." Others criticized the discussion as pointless, noting Harry's position further down the line of succession and questioning the need for such debate.

Comments included:

  • "So just another day on normal island then, but what pointless rubbish is this for a talking point this morning?"
  • "There's clearly no news this morning if this is being discussed. Pointless debate!"
  • "This is a pointless conversation because it would never happen anyway! #GMB. Grasping at straws for a news story."

The backlash underscores viewer frustration with what many perceived as a sensationalized topic lacking substance. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX, but this episode has left audiences questioning its editorial choices.
