As winter nights encourage cosy evenings indoors, even the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely settling in for some quality television time. While royal watchers hope for more public engagements from Catherine, who is marking a significant milestone of one year in cancer remission this month, the princess is also looking forward to well-deserved downtime at home.
A Royal Favourite Awaits Its Next Mission
However, as the Princess of Wales celebrates her 44th birthday, there is a slight disappointment for one of her preferred pastimes. Fans, and seemingly Catherine herself, are waiting for news on the second series of the critically acclaimed Netflix spy thriller, Black Doves. The show, which captivated audiences in December 2024, holds an impressive 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was renewed for another season before its first even finished.
Masterminded by Joe Barton, Black Doves features a star-studded cast including Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw, and Sarah Lancashire. The plot centres on a network of freelance spies whose covers are blown. It specifically follows undercover agent Helen Webb, played by Oscar nominee Keira Knightley, whose secret life is jeopardised after her lover is murdered by London's criminal underworld.
William and Kate's Well-Known TV Tastes
This revelation adds to the growing list of television preferences shared by the royal couple. During a visit to BAFTA headquarters, Prince William enthusiastically expressed his passion for the Jason Bourne film series to director Paul Greengrass, eagerly asking about the potential for "another Bourne". The filmmaker reportedly responded with a laugh and a shake of his head, with the franchise's future currently uncertain.
Another favourite facing an unclear future is the BBC's Killing Eve. During a 2019 visit, William confessed to being a dedicated viewer. Show producer Sally Woodward Gentle revealed the prince had "watched it all", praising the dark humour and performances of Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh. Although the series concluded in 2022, rumours of a spin-off persist.
The Waleses are also self-proclaimed "big fans" of Game of Thrones, having told actor Tom Wlaschiha they had "watched every series". In a 2017 radio interview, William endorsed the show, advising listeners it was "definitely worth watching".
Beyond the Screen: Royal Family Passions
Prince William's interests extend beyond television to a shared love of music with his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. He disclosed on Apple's Time To Walk podcast that the youngsters often debate song choices during their school run. This musical passion was highlighted globally when William, George, and Charlotte took a now-famous selfie with pop icon Taylor Swift at her Wembley Stadium concert.
For now, as the royal family enjoys their private moments, many viewers will be joining the Princess of Wales in anticipating the next chapter of the gripping espionage world of Black Doves.
