Prince William vows to protect pubs during Peckham visit

Prince William has pledged to support Britain's pubs during a visit to the Prince of Peckham in South London, where he pulled pints and spoke with locals. The Prince of Wales described pubs as “so important” and “a place for the community to come together”, adding that they need protection.

Speaking with pub owner Clem Ogbonnaya, William said: “I love pubs. I want to do as much as I can to support pubs because I love the community. We need to protect our pubs.” He described pubs as “the glue and fabric” of communities and praised the Prince of Peckham as a family business.

During the visit, William joined the pub’s weekly breakfast club, Chatty Patty, which aims to tackle loneliness. He told the group he “grew up in pubs” and described them as “crucial” for human contact. He also pulled a pint of Red Stripe, joking that Ogbonnaya was “just as bad as me” after receiving applause for his efforts.

William also tried jerk chicken with plantain, saying it “blew my mind” and joking he hoped they would deliver it to Windsor. Earlier, he visited community charity PECAN, which addresses poverty and food insecurity, and spoke about how the 24-hour news cycle and mobile phones can contribute to depression and loneliness.
