The Princess of Wales has long been admired for her poise and dedication, but it is her approach to motherhood that is currently captivating royal observers. While she and Prince William fiercely protect the privacy of their three children, glimpses into their family life reveal a remarkably grounded and intentional parenting style.
Leading by Example: The Gentle Approach
A recent video analysis on TikTok, shared by an account with over 43,000 followers, highlighted key moments that define Catherine's methods. The footage, often from earlier years, shows the Princess employing a patient, example-led technique rather than public reprimands.
One notable instance involved a young Prince George initially declining a handshake from another child. Instead of correcting him on the spot, Kate Middleton was seen gracefully curtsying to the boy and then bending down to shake his hand herself. Observers noted that following this, George began to readily accept and even initiate handshakes.
The analysis pointed out: "This is Catherine's unique approach to parenting. Unlike many parents, she never criticises her children's impolite behaviour in public. Instead she teaches them what the right behaviour looks like through her own actions."
Fostering Independence and Compassion
The Princess's patience was also evident with a young Princess Charlotte, allowing her to explore safely, pet dogs independently, and navigate steps on her own to build confidence. Her care extends beyond her immediate family; she sorts through outgrown clothes from George and Charlotte to donate to orphanages, ensuring other children feel kindness.
This lesson in compassion is clearly taking root. During a visit to the homelessness charity The Passage in London last month, Prince George, now 12, was seen helping to prepare meals for those in need, actively following his mother's example of spreading kindness.
A Normal Upbringing Amid Extraordinary Circumstances
Prince William has previously offered insights into their household ethos, emphasising normality and responsibility. In an appearance on 'The Reluctant Traveller' podcast last year, he revealed that their children are not allowed mobile phones and are expected to contribute to daily chores.
"I think it would surprise people to see how ordinary things are at home," the Prince of Wales said. "The children help with laying the table, clearing their plates when they've finished eating and helping with tidying up. There's no preferential treatment."
He stressed that providing a happy, healthy, and stable home is his and Kate's paramount focus, believing it sets the foundation for their children's future. This commitment has been unwavering, even as the Princess underwent cancer treatment after her diagnosis in March 2024, thankfully announcing she was in remission following chemotherapy in January 2025.
Royal fans have been deeply impressed by this consistent, loving approach. As one commenter on the viral video noted, the Princess of Wales is a wonderful mother who "teaches her children with love," proving that her most impactful role transcends royal duty.
