A 25-year-old woman has openly shared the compelling reason behind her decision to marry a man who is not only 43 years her senior but also 15 years older than her own father.
A Fateful Meeting in the Mountains
The couple, Julieta and Charly, first crossed paths in 2023 in the Argentine town of La Falda, nestled in the Sierras de Córdoba mountain range. Julieta, from Villa Allende, was selling jewellery to pensioners when she noticed Charly, then 66, whom she initially mistook for a tour group coordinator. "He caught my eye as soon as I saw him," Julieta told Argentinian outlet TN. "I've always been drawn to older men, but he had something different."
Charly, a former nuclear plant manager, was equally smitten. He approached her stall under the pretence of making a purchase, using the opportunity to prolong their conversation before boldly asking her on a date. Their first meeting lasted for three hours of non-stop talk, with Julieta admitting he completely "charmed" her. Their romance was sealed with a kiss outside the La Falda Civil Registry building—the very place where they would return to marry two years later.
The Simple Reason Behind the Union
Despite the significant age difference—Charly is 68 and has children older than his wife—Julieta points to a fundamental need as the foundation of their relationship. "I need to feel admiration for the person next to me," she explained. "With a guy my age, I feel like he's not going to teach me anything."
She is deeply attracted to his intelligence, life experience, and what she describes as his "intellectual flight," valuing the knowledge she gains from him. The physical attraction is also strong, noting his energy and being "covered in tattoos." Julieta stated that it was upon truly getting to know him that she fell "completely."
Navigating Family and Online Backlash
With Julieta's father being 54 and her mother 44, the potential for family tension was high. Charly cleverly broke the ice with her father, Rolando, using humour and honesty. "I said to Rolando, my father-in-law: 'If I had a 23-year-old daughter and a 66-year-old appeared, I'd beat him up'. He started laughing, and we've been friends ever since," Charly recounted.
However, the couple faces relentless criticism online, particularly on platforms like TikTok. Julieta has been subjected to cruel remarks suggesting she will have to "change his nappies" and accusations that she is only with him for money. She responds with pity for those "guided by prejudice," emphasising that it is "liberating to live the life you choose." Charly adopts a philosophy of "stoicism" to deal with the negativity.
Now happily married, the couple focuses on their life together—Charly works with cryptocurrency and Julieta runs her own business. Dismissing concerns about future care, Julieta lives by the mantra that "life is today." She refuses to deprive herself of love out of fear of the unknown, touchingly vowing to stand by her husband's side "right up until the very last day."
