Coronation Street Icon Anne Reid Joins Star-Studded HBO Comedy Series

Coronation Street legend Anne Reid has been cast in a recurring role in an upcoming HBO comedy series from Sharon Horgan. The 90-year-old actress, best known for playing Valerie Barlow in the ITV soap from 1961 to 1971, joins a cast that includes Harriet Walter and Freddie Fox.

The HBO series, written and executive produced by Horgan, follows a 50-year-old divorcee navigating sex and love while caring for her ageing parents and her adult son. Horgan also stars in the show, alongside Walter, known for roles in Succession and Ted Lasso, and Fox, who appeared in Slow Horses.

Reid's character in Coronation Street was part of an early soap 'supercouple' with Ken Barlow, and her wedding episode drew over 15 million viewers. She later appeared in Dinnerladies and Last Tango in Halifax.

Walter began her career with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has featured in films such as Sense and Sensibility and Atonement, while Fox is known for playing Marilyn in the BBC's Boy George biopic and Jeremy Bamber in White House Farm.

The series comes from the makers of Amandaland, Bad Sisters and Vladimir. Character details for the new cast members have yet to be announced.
