Dylan was born on the soap in 2007 after Violet asked Sean to donate his sperm. He made a brief return in January 2021 as part of a storyline tackling homophobia. Antony Cotton has expressed his excitement about the new dynamic, telling Digital Spy: "He's going to come back full-time. I can't wait for it, as it gives me a totally different dynamic."

Cotton added to the Manchester Evening News: "Sean is going to finally get his son Dylan back home for a great run of storylines that will map out the next 12 months."
