Danny Dyer has teased that he goes full frontal in the upcoming second season of Rivals, the Disney+ series based on Jilly Cooper's raunchy novels. The show, which returns this week, captivated audiences with its steamy sex scenes and nostalgic Eighties soundtrack, and Dyer promises even more explicit content this time around.
Danny Dyer's Full Frontal Revelation
The 48-year-old actor, known for his tough-guy roles, became an unexpected heartthrob in the first season as sensitive entrepreneur Freddie Jones. Speaking to the Radio Times, Dyer hinted at his daring scene: "I go full frontal in this series, if they keep it in the edit. It's a night shoot, and it was cold, and I'd better not say any more."
Dyer emphasized the show's equal-opportunity approach to nudity, noting that if women bare their breasts, men should feel equally comfortable. "Nobody's under pressure to be naked if they don't want to, but if a woman's getting her breasts out, why shouldn't I get it all out? I've got breasts as well, to be fair," he said.
Cast Discusses Explicit Scenes
The cast has openly discussed the show's many sex scenes. David Tennant, who plays TV boss Lord Baddingham, revealed he sustained an injury while filming a sex scene for season two. The Doctor Who star said he "launched" himself onto a wooden bed and "collided with the bed frame in a rather unfortunate way." He added, "You can never quite tell when you're going to fall over and embarrass yourself, can you, but you most certainly don't want to do it whilst wearing a modesty pouch."
Critical Reception of Season Two
The Independent's Nick Hilton gave the second season a four-star review, praising its return to Rutshire, which he described as "a Disneyfied, sexed-up version of the Cotswolds." He noted that Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) returns to his "wild stallion ways" after separating from younger love interest Taggie (Bella MacLean), which he said is "just an excuse to include plenty of thrusting buttocks and heaving bosoms." Hilton concluded, "The sex is silly... and never overly explicit, because, at its heart, Rivals is an expensive soap opera."
Rivals season two premieres on Disney+ on Friday 15 May.
