Monday night's (March 9) episode of Emmerdale saw Cain Dingle finally tell his wife Moira about his prostate cancer diagnosis, leaving viewers in tears. Cain had been hiding the news since early February, when he received his test results, choosing not to burden Moira as she faced wrongful imprisonment for murder.
The revelation came after Cain noticed blood in his urine and visited Dr Liam Cavanagh, who diagnosed a urinary tract infection but encouraged Cain to open up to his wife. When Cain visited Moira in prison, he admitted he has grade four prostate cancer, meaning it could spread without treatment.
Moira was devastated but grateful that Cain finally confided in her. The scenes, which took up most of the episode, showed a rare vulnerable side to Cain, with many fans praising the performances of Jeff Hordley and Natalie J Robb.
Some critics suggest the episode could have been even more powerful as a two-hander between Cain and Moira, without the subplots involving Jacob Gallagher and Sarah Sugden or Joe Tate's blackmail. Nonetheless, viewers were moved, with many taking to social media to express their emotional reactions.
