Emmerdale's Charity Dingle is set to face a second devastating blow in upcoming episodes, following the revelation that her husband Mackenzie Boyd fathered a child with another woman. The Dingle family is thrown into turmoil as Charity discovers that her own granddaughter, Sarah Sugden, knew about Mack's betrayal for months and kept it hidden.
Charity recently learned that Mack had a one-night stand with Chloe Harris last summer, resulting in Chloe giving birth to a baby boy. While Mack initially decided to stay out of the child's life, he remains conflicted. However, the truth comes out, leaving Charity heartbroken.
As the family grapples with the news, it becomes apparent that Sarah was aware of the secret all along. Viewers saw Sarah overhear Mack and Chloe discussing their situation in January and stage a panic attack to prevent Mack from confessing. She later begged them to stay apart to protect Charity.
Charity, feeling deeply betrayed, confronts Sarah. Actress Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, told The Mirror: "That comes up during a big scene... It's one of those moments where she then realises Sarah has covered [for them], and it's pretty devastating." Atkins added that while Charity may eventually understand Sarah's motives, the initial shock is immense.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
