Madonna Scolds Nymph at Met Gala 2026 in Dramatic Saint Laurent Gown
Madonna Scolds Nymph at Met Gala 2026

Madonna became visibly irritated with one of her seven nymph attendants during the Met Gala 2026 red carpet on Monday. The pop icon turned around to scold a young woman dressed in a pink negligee with beige lace, commanding her to move, as captured during Vogue's live coverage.

Madonna's Dramatic Entrance

The 67-year-old singer, known for hits like "Rebel Heart," shot a death stare at the woman while standing on the famous Met Gala steps. The nymphs were assisting in carrying Madonna's long veil. Her ensemble was inspired by the 1945 Surrealist painting The Temptation of St. Anthony. Fragment II by Leonora Carrington, which depicts the desert temptation of Anthony the Great and is noted for its influence on 20th-century art.

Madonna wore a black, gothic-inspired Saint Laurent lace gown paired with satin opera gloves. She swapped her usual blonde hair for a long, raven-hued wig, topped with a headpiece featuring a pirate ship ornament. The look was completed with a long, sheer grey cape attached to her headdress. The extravagant outfit was designed by Anthony Vaccarello, who posed with her during the event.

She was accompanied by her much younger boyfriend, Akeem Morris, 29. This year's Met Gala theme was "Costume Art," with a dress code of "Fashion Is Art."

Accessories and Upcoming Album

Madonna accessorized with statement rings, a chunky pendant necklace, and black boots. She also carried a French horn-like instrument at her side. Her appearance at the annual gala comes ahead of her highly anticipated album Confessions II, set for release this summer.

In April, Madonna surprised fans by teasing her return to music after a seven-year hiatus from the charts. The new album is a follow-up to her 2005 LP Confessions on a Dance Floor, which featured the smash hit "Hung Up." Last week, she released a song with Sabrina Carpenter titled "Bring Your Love," following their surprise Coachella performance.

Controversy Surrounding the Gala

This year's gala was marred by controversy as Hollywood fumed over Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, 62, and his wife Lauren Sanchez, 56, sponsoring the event. Rumors suggest the couple donated $10 million to the Costume Institute in exchange for being named honorary co-chairs. They reportedly paid the sum to hobnob with former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has spearheaded the fundraiser since 1995.

Sources told Page Six that the move put them in favor with Wintour, 76, who uses the event to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. "The Bezoses are where the American dream is at right now for status, wealth and style," said William Norwich, a former Vogue editor. "They display conspicuous consumption [and] they have the 'AWOK' – the Anna Wintour OK." Last year's Met Gala raised $31 million, the highest in its 77-year history, but this year's event topped it with $42 million.
