Nine years after Kylie Jenner's iconic 2017 Met Gala bathroom mirror selfie, several celebrities have recreated the shot at the 2026 event. Stars including Margot Robbie, Gracie Abrams, and Ayo Edebiri crowded into a bathroom mirror selfie on Monday, 4 May 2026.
The Recreated Selfie
The photo was taken by Indian model Bhavitha Mandava, who positioned herself at the front. The 26-year-old captured the image featuring Margot Robbie, Ayo Edebiri, members of K-Pop band Blackpink, Gracie Abrams, and Rachel Sennott. Bhavitha wore a casual top and jeans, styled by Chanel, which she also wore on the red carpet. The other celebrities were dressed in their red carpet attire, though the crowded shot made it difficult to see their outfits clearly.
Gracie Abrams wore a gold Chanel dress inspired by Gustav Klimt's 1907 portrait The Woman in Gold, though much of it was obscured by a no smoking sign in the mirror. Margot Robbie's champagne Chanel dress, reportedly requiring 761 hours to create, was also hidden behind the group. Only a small hint of Ayo Edebiri's white dress was visible.
Comparison to Kylie Jenner's 2017 Selfie
The 2026 selfie closely mirrors Kylie Jenner's 2017 bathroom photo, taken during the 'Art of the In-Between' themed gala honoring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo. Kylie wore a fringed Versace look with a blonde wig, joined by Kendall Jenner, A$AP Rocky, Kim Kardashian, Paris Jackson, Lily Aldridge, Ashton Sanders, Luka Sabbat, and Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
Bathroom Selfie Tradition
Stars often take photos in gender-neutral bathrooms at the Met Gala, as the venue's social media ban is less strictly enforced there. Over the years, similar selfies have been taken by Ashley Graham, Hailey Bieber, Cara Delevingne, and Bella Hadid. However, Anna Wintour is unlikely to appear in any such photo, as she has her own private bathroom guarded by security.
Notable Absences
Several A-listers skipped the 2026 Met Gala. Timothée Chalamet attended a Knicks game instead. Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, and Demi Lovato missed the event to focus on upcoming tours and albums. Callum Turner and Dua Lipa vacationed in Copenhagen, while Sydney Sweeney was in Australia. Zendaya also sat out after being a major attendee for years. Bella Hadid, Taraji P. Henson, and Lisa Ann Walter skipped due to Jeff Bezos' involvement as lead sponsor and honorary co-chair, citing his ties to ICE.
