In the episode, Turner's character Declan O'Hara is ejected naked from a hotel room by his wife Maud (Victoria Smurfit) after an argument. St Clement's character encounters him in the hallway and, doing a double take, asks, 'Is that Terry Wogan?' The moment is described as a delightful nod for viewers of both Rivals and EastEnders.
Rivals, set in the affluent county of Rutshire during the 1980s, is based on Jilly Cooper's novel and focuses on the scandalous lives of its residents. The Sun reported that former EastEnders boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins was instrumental in persuading St Clement to take on the cameo role.
This appearance comes shortly after St Clement reprised her role as Pat Evans in EastEnders for a dementia storyline involving Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley). In that episode, Pat appeared as a hallucination alongside her former step-son Barry Evans (Shaun Williamson), delighting long-time fans of the soap.
