Peaky Blinders Film The Immortal Man Reveals Zelda's Role

The Peaky Blinders film The Immortal Man has arrived on Netflix, providing a definitive ending to Tommy Shelby's story. Spoiler alert: Tommy is not immortal, and his demise is as Shakespearean and tragic as fans might expect.

The film follows Tommy (Cillian Murphy), now a recluse in the country, as he is drawn back into the world of the Peaky Blinders several years after series six. His return to Birmingham is prompted by his son Duke (Barry Keoghan), who proves even more immoral and brutal than his father. Despite their resentment, they unite to dismantle a Nazi counterfeit money plot, leading to a tragic end for Tommy, who sees this as his final act before passing the torch to Duke.

While the men scheme and kill, the women pull strings behind the scenes. Tommy's sister Ada (Sophie Rundle) uses logic, while newcomer Kaulo (Rebecca Ferguson), a Gypsy medium, employs mysterious tactics to guide Tommy back to Birmingham. Her actions are linked to her twin sister Zelda, whose backstory is crucial to the plot.

Tommy met Zelda in 1914 at the Appleby Horse Fair. She stole his watch, they slept together under a tree, and her father shot Tommy in the chest. Tommy survived but never saw Zelda again. Zelda gave birth to their son Erasmus Chiriklo in 1915, never contacting Tommy. When Erasmus found Tommy's engraved watch, Zelda told him his father was the Duke of the Saxon Shore, leading Erasmus to call himself Duke. Zelda later died of an illness after being denied a hospital bed.

Zelda appears only in flashbacks, played by Tilly Woodward. When Kaulo first appears, Tommy mistakes her for Zelda. Kaulo claims she is sometimes possessed by Zelda's spirit, who sent her to get Tommy to help their son. Thus, Zelda sets the entire film in motion from beyond the grave.
