Sue Radford, matriarch of Britain's largest family, has opened up about the devastating moment she realised her stillborn son Alfie was 'slipping away' months before his death. In their new book, 'The Radfords: Making Life Count', the mother of 22 recalls the traumatic events of July 2014, when her 17th child was stillborn.
Speaking candidly, Sue revealed that she had a premonition she would never bring Alfie home. 'From finding out I was pregnant with Alfie, I think I always knew we were never going to take him home,' she said. 'It was so odd because I never felt like that during any of my other pregnancies.'
The tragedy unfolded while the family were filming for their reality show. Sue described how she felt Alfie's movements slowing down three days before losing him. On the day of the stillbirth, she experienced sharp back pains after a beach filming session and went to hospital, where doctors confirmed no heartbeat could be found.
To keep Alfie's memory alive, Sue has tattoos of his handprints on her hand and footprints on her foot. She wrote on Instagram: 'I love that I can always see his little hand prints on my hand and that his little feet always walk with me wherever I go.' The family also visit his grave regularly and remember him each summer.
