Ty Pennington Returns to HGTV for 'Battle on the Beach' Season 5
Ty Pennington Returns to HGTV for Battle on the Beach

Ty Pennington is making a comeback to HGTV for the upcoming season of Battle on the Beach, putting to rest previous speculation that the renovation series had been cancelled. The 60-year-old former host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will take on the role of mentor in the show's fifth season, as confirmed by the network on Monday.

New Season Details

The seven-episode season is set to premiere on June 1. Pennington will be joined by fellow mentors Sarah Baeumler, known for Rock the Block, and Mika Kleinschmidt, host of 100 Day Dream Home. Together, they will guide two-person teams armed with a $100,000 budget to transform dated waterfront properties in South Carolina over the course of seven weeks. The redesigned homes will be evaluated by Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama, the duo behind Renovation Aloha, who are currently facing a lawsuit for allegedly displaying native Hawaiian burial remains on their show. The winning team will take home a cash prize of at least $50,000.

Background on Cancellation Rumors

The revival of Battle on the Beach comes after reports emerged last summer suggesting that the network had pulled the plug on the series. This decision was part of a broader move by Warner Brothers Discovery, HGTV's parent company, which announced plans to split into two publicly traded entities. Consequently, several home improvement shows were axed, including Christina on the Coast, Married to Real Estate, Farmhouse Fixer, Bargain Block, and Izzy Does It.

Former host Alison Victoria had previously stated on her podcast that Battle on the Beach "did not get picked back up" for a fifth season, describing the cancellation as "sad, because it was like adult spring break." She also criticized the show's editing, noting that much of the fun and humor was lost in the final cut. Victoria, who served as a mentor for four seasons alongside Pennington and Taniya Nayak, will not be returning for the new season. Neither Nayak nor Victoria responded to requests for comment, and HGTV did not provide any explanation regarding the decision to renew the show after months of uncertainty.

Premiere Information

Battle on the Beach will debut with a two-hour episode on June 1 at 9 p.m. Eastern on HGTV. Subsequent episodes will be available for streaming the following day on HBO Max.
