Olympic champion Adam Peaty has issued a public apology to his now-wife, Holly Ramsay, in a remarkably candid admission about the challenges of balancing his family life. The swimmer's heartfelt confession came just months before the couple's wedding at Bath Abbey this Saturday.
A Father First: Peaty's Emotional Priorities
During an appearance on the Live, Laugh, Luke... with Luke Hamnett podcast, the 30-year-old athlete was asked about the importance of his role as a father to his five-year-old son, George, from his previous relationship with Eiri Munro. Peaty stated unequivocally that being a dad is "the most important job in the world" for him.
He hinted at future plans with Holly, 25, saying, "as a father, to hopefully have future children and stuff, [it] does not matter about anything else, that is my number one job." While acknowledging that his sporting career limits his time with George, Peaty insisted they have achieved a "very good balance."
It was then that the gold medallist directly addressed his partner. "And then we have husband... they kind of share the same space, sorry Hol, but they do share the same space, and she gets it," he confessed, apologising for how Holly has to share his attention.
Strictly Star's Personal Struggles and Family Tensions
Peaty, who finished ninth on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021 with professional Katya Jones, ranked his life roles in a revealing order. He said he "lights up" most when with his son, placing that connection above his identity as an athlete, business owner, or even his Strictly stint.
However, the swimmer admitted that "it’s hard to get that balance" between all aspects of his demanding life. This personal reflection comes amidst reported family drama that cast a shadow over his wedding celebrations.
Peaty's parents, Caroline and Mark, were noticeably absent from the ceremony at Bath Abbey. It has been reported that only his sister, Bethany, attended from his side of the family. Tensions are believed to have escalated after his mother was not invited to Holly's hen party.
Speaking to The Mail just hours before the wedding, Caroline Peaty expressed her heartbreak: "I don’t think they understand how much they have hurt me; it’s as if they have cut my heart out... my family is broken."
Navigating the Spotlight and Moving Forward
In the lead-up to the wedding, Adam Peaty addressed the reported feud on Instagram. He wrote about his continuous journey of self-improvement, aiming to be "a worthy partner, father, businessman, friend and athlete; even through these challenging times."
He concluded his statement with a show of unity, writing, "Bethany, Holly and I will get through this - we do not ask for sympathy. We just need people to be aware that there are always two sides to every story."
The interview and subsequent family tensions highlight the complex realities of managing a high-profile career, a new marriage, and existing family responsibilities in the public eye.
