ITV has pulled Emmerdale and Coronation Street from the schedule on Wednesday, June 24, to broadcast live coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between Switzerland and Canada. The disruption follows a recent scheduling change that saw both soaps move to new time slots earlier this year.
New Schedule and World Cup Disruptions
Since early 2026, Emmerdale airs 30-minute episodes from Monday to Friday at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm. Both are available on ITVX from 7am. However, on June 24, neither soap will be broadcast due to the World Cup.
ITV has confirmed that both shows will return on Thursday, June 25, with hour-long episodes: Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 9pm. Further changes are scheduled for Friday, June 26, when ITV covers Norway vs France, and over the weekend (June 28-29). Following Thursday's episodes, the soaps will not return until Tuesday, June 30.
Emmerdale Storyline: Charity's Ordeal
In recent Emmerdale episodes, Charity Dingle has been struggling after being sexually assaulted by Dr. Todd. Todd manipulated Charity over her secret child, baby Leyla, who is actually Charity's daughter, not Sarah Sugden's. After coercing Charity into giving him money, Todd raped her when she refused further demands.
On Tuesday, June 24, Charity reached her limit and confided in newcomer Serena Sugden, revealing the assault, the secret baby, and the blackmail. Serena advised Charity to report the blackmail and expose Todd, noting that messages between them could serve as evidence.
Emmerdale and Coronation Street return Thursday, June 25 at 8pm and 9pm respectively on ITV1 and ITVX.
