100 Jobs Created by New Plastic Recycling Plants in Swansea and Tredegar
100 Jobs from New Plastic Recycling Plants in Swansea and Tredegar

Plastic processing firm J & A Young (Leicester) Ltd, operating as Jayplas, is creating 100 new jobs with the opening of two plastics processing and recycling plants in Swansea and Tredegar. The sites are expected to be fully operational by March 2028.

Welsh Government Support

Jayplas received Welsh Government support in 2023 under the former administration to set up a plastics reprocessing operation at the former Toyoda Gosei factory in Gorseinon, Swansea. That factory closed in 2021, impacting more than 200 jobs. A second site will be located at Tafarnaubach Industrial Estate in Tredegar.

Boosting Circular Economy

The Welsh Government says the investment will increase Wales' reprocessing capacity for recycled plastic and boost the circular economy. Enterprise minister Adam Price said: "Jayplas choosing to open a second site here in Wales is a further boost to decarbonisation and will see the company create green jobs in an area with a rich industrial past. This is exactly the sort of sustainable, future-facing employment we want to foster as part of our transition to a circular economy. Our new Welsh Government is focused on creating a stronger, more productive net zero economy that delivers for people in every part of Wales."
