Motherwell MSP Supports Injury Awareness Week 2026 Ripple Effect Campaign
Motherwell MSP Backs Injury Awareness Week 2026

Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson is supporting Injury Awareness Week 2026, an annual campaign led by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) to raise awareness of the consequences of preventable injuries and their impact on individuals, families, and communities.

Focus on the Ripple Effect

This year's campaign focuses on the "ripple effect" of injury, highlighting how the consequences of negligence often extend far beyond the person directly affected. More than 430,000 people in the UK were injured through negligence last year. While every statistic represents an individual whose life has been disrupted, the emotional, financial, and practical impact of injury is often felt by family members, friends, carers, and wider communities.

Whether an injury results in a full recovery or lifelong challenges, Injury Awareness Week aims to shine a light on the often unseen effects of avoidable harm and encourage greater awareness of the importance of prevention and safety.

MSP's Personal Commitment

Commenting, Ms Adamson said: "Injury Awareness Week is an important opportunity to recognise the devastating impact that preventable injuries can have, not only on those directly affected but also on their families, friends and support networks."

"Behind every statistic is a person whose life may have been changed in an instant, and whose loved ones often face emotional, practical and financial challenges as a result."

"This is an issue that is particularly close to my heart. For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of serving as Convenor of the Cross-Party Group on Accident Prevention and Safety Awareness, working alongside organisations and campaigners dedicated to reducing preventable harm and improving public safety."

Call for Prevention and Support

"Too often, the wider consequences of injury go unseen. Injury Awareness Week reminds us of the importance of prevention, awareness and ensuring that those affected by negligence receive the support they need."

"By continuing to promote safety awareness and accident prevention, we can help reduce avoidable injuries and protect individuals, families and communities from their often life-changing consequences."
