Schoolgirl Donates 80cm of Hair to Help Children with Cancer
Schoolgirl Donates 80cm Hair to Children with Cancer

Caelin Munro, a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Skelmersdale, has demonstrated remarkable generosity by donating 80 centimetres of her hair to help make wigs for children with cancer. The Year 11 student at Brooklyns Aurora in Leyland had her hair cut off at Barbers No. 1 in Liverpool city centre on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Donation to Little Princess Trust

Caelin's hair will be used by the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. The trust requires approximately £700 to create and deliver a single wig to a child in need.

In addition to her hair donation, Caelin is fundraising for the Little Princess Trust and the Owen McVeigh Foundation, which creates lasting memories for children with cancer and their families through days out and experiences.

Family Pride and Motivation

Caelin's father, Asa Munro, 51, expressed immense pride in his daughter's actions. He told the Liverpool Echo: "Caelin wanted to cut her hair off to help make wigs for little girls with cancer, and then a day later she came in to see us and said, 'I'm doing this for the girls. But what about the boys?' So she's doing this for the Little Princess Trust, but she's also raising for the Owen McVeigh Foundation, making memories for terminally ill kids."

Asa added: "She wanted to give something back. It's a very selfless act. Caelin has been growing her hair since she was a baby and never had it cut, so she's donating 80cm. I think it's very brave and amazing that a 16-year-old girl would think of doing something like that. Girls are usually self-conscious at that age, so this is a very generous and selfless act. I'm probably the proudest dad in the world."

Fundraising Goal and Impact

The family has set a fundraising target of £5,000, with proceeds split equally between the two charities. As of the report, donations had reached £2,550. Asa noted: "We're going to keep going as much as we can. We're at £2,550 now and still going. The target is £5,000, and hopefully we'll get to that, but if we don't, we'll be more than happy. If we can even get to £2,800 it would make a massive difference."

Community Response

Caelin's act of kindness has inspired her community. Her father described her as "a very caring girl and a lovely-natured girl," highlighting that this is the first major charitable initiative she has undertaken. The haircut, which removed all 80 centimetres of her hair, was performed at Barbers No. 1, and photos of the event show Caelin smiling after the chop.
