Six Dead in Colorado Dairy Farm Confined Space Incident

Six bodies have been recovered from a confined space at a dairy farm in northern Colorado, authorities confirmed. The victims were found at Prospect Valley Dairy near Keenesburg on Wednesday, according to the Southeast Weld Fire Protection District.

Rescue crews responded to the scene and took precautions to enter the confined space. 'Unfortunately, District personnel recovered six deceased individuals from the space. The District extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims,' the fire department stated.

The Weld County Coroner's Office identified the victims as men, all adults except for one who may have been 17 years old. The cause of death remains unknown, but the coroner told CBS News Colorado that there appeared to be exposure to gas at the dairy that day.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office said no evidence of criminal activity has been found. The incident is under investigation by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which ensures safe working conditions.

The dairy, located about 40 miles northeast of Denver, is the site of the latest tragedy. This incident follows other fatal farm accidents in the US, including a 2023 explosion at a Texas dairy that killed 18,000 cows and a 2021 murder-suicide at a North Dakota farm that left four dead.
