Cosmetic dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting has launched a new moisturiser specifically designed for oily and blemish-prone skin types. The Flawless Moisturiser Balance builds on the success of her award-winning Flawless Moisturiser Intense, which has won 10 beauty awards since its 2023 debut.
Clinical Results Show Promise
In clinical testing on 32 individuals with oily, combination skin over two weeks, 100% confirmed the moisturiser provided hydration without blocking pores. Additionally, 97% reported that stressed and sensitive skin felt calmed after application. The product has achieved a 4.84-star rating out of five from customer reviews.
Dr Sam stated: "Flawless Moisturiser Balance is the product I've wanted to create for every patient who walked out of clinic without a moisturiser because nothing on the market felt right for their skin. The science behind it is the most advanced we've put into a moisturiser formula."
Key Ingredients and Technology
The star ingredient is 2% Sunflower Sprout Extract (SSE), formulated to bolster mitochondrial resilience against environmental stress. In trials conducted by Professor Mark Birch-Machin, Professor of Molecular Dermatology at Newcastle University, SSE demonstrated a reduction in UV-induced damage to mitochondrial DNA in human skin cells by 34%, while preserving cellular energy reserve by 18%. Dr Sam described these as "statistically significant results."
The formula also includes antioxidant 3% Silymarin to protect against oxidative stress, 1% Ectoin for calming reactive skin and enhancing hydration, ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier, and Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract to reduce redness. The product is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores. It offers a lightweight, fast-absorbing texture that leaves no greasy residue and works well with retinoids and other active ingredients.
Customer Feedback
One reviewer who had used Dr Sam's previous moisturiser for five years said: "I've used Dr Sam's moisturizer for about 5 years now and I love it, but I think I love moisturiser balance even more. It feels so hydrating but absorbs straight away. Doesn't feel sticky at all either and moisturises through out the day."
Another customer commented: "This moisturiser is great because it goes on so smoothly and sinks into the skin really quickly, without clogging pores and breaking me out! It works beautifully under makeup and SPF. New favourite."
A third user with sensitive, acne-prone skin added: "It's lightweight but still leaves my skin feeling hydrated without being greasy. It absorbs quickly and, unlike many other moisturisers I've tried, it doesn't cause any burning or stinging."
However, one reviewer noted a potential drawback: "Really good moisturiser for sensitive/blemish prone skin. Only thing I would say is that it doesn't mix as well as others with tanning drops. But a great base for spf and makeup."
Alternatives and Pricing
The Flawless Moisturiser Balance is priced at £36. For those seeking alternatives, Mantle's The Lite Cream, containing NAD+-boosting sunflower sprout extract and niacinamide, is currently discounted from £42 to £35.
