After days of extreme heat and multiple amber and red weather warnings across Wales, the early hours of Friday morning provided a short relief with thunderstorms scattering throughout the country. From 6pm on Thursday until 10am this morning the Met Office issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for parts of Wales. After the thunderstorms, forecasters believe we will see a drop in temperature across Wales however it will stay hot and humid with a warm summer ahead. Many people saw huge lightning strikes and loud thunder overnight in different areas of Wales and captured them on film.
Met Office Warning Details
The Met Office warning for Friday morning stated: "Whilst many areas will miss them, thunderstorms may produce sudden, gusty winds with 50 to 60 mph possible, particularly in the south and west of the warning area. Frequent lightning, hail and heavy rain (possibly 15-20 mm in an hour) are additional hazards." The start of July the UK is also expected to see some thundery outbreaks at times along with periods of rain and showers.
