Lynx, the deodorant manufacturer, has released guidance on how to minimize sweating as the UK experiences a heatwave with temperatures expected to reach 40°C. The advice covers clothing choices, cooling strategies, antiperspirant application, and hydration.
Breathable Clothing and Light Colours
Lynx recommends selecting clothing made from natural, breathable materials such as cotton. These fabrics allow for better air circulation and help keep the body cool. Lighter colours are also beneficial as they reflect sunlight, reducing heat absorption.
Keeping Cool Indoors and Outdoors
During high temperatures, Lynx advises actively seeking ways to stay cool. Indoors, drawing curtains or blinds and using fans can lower room temperature. Outdoors, staying in shaded areas and wearing a hat can prevent overheating, which triggers increased perspiration.
Antiperspirant Application After Showering
Lynx suggests cooling down after a warm shower before applying antiperspirant. Allowing body temperature to normalise prevents immediate perspiration and ensures the antiperspirant works more effectively on dry skin.
Hydration Reduces Sweating
Drinking plenty of water is essential for regulating the body's core temperature. Staying well-hydrated helps the body manage heat more efficiently, which can contribute to reducing overall perspiration, according to Lynx's guidance.
Met Office Heat Warning
The Met Office has issued a rare red warning for much of southern England for Wednesday and Thursday. Very hot weather is expected to continue until at least Thursday, with daytime temperatures widely exceeding 30°C and potentially peaking around 38-40°C within the red warning area. Overnight temperatures are unlikely to fall much below the high teens Celsius, and some places may not drop below the low 20s Celsius, accompanied by high humidity. Cooler conditions may begin from the west after this period, but confidence is low.
