3-Legged Dog Laika Overlooked for Adoption Due to Appearance
3-Legged Dog Overlooked as 'Ugly' and 'Broken'

A three-legged dog named Laika is struggling to find a forever home in the UK because potential adopters perceive her as “ugly” and “broken,” despite her cheerful and fearless nature. The mixed-breed dog, approximately two and a half years old, was rescued from the streets of Bosnia after sustaining a severe leg injury that required amputation.

Laika’s Personality Shines Despite Disability

According to her foster carers in Essex, Laika has not let the loss of a limb slow her down. Weighing around 15 kilograms, she is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. Her caregivers describe her as a “tripaw” who moves around “great” and can still run, jump, and play like any other young dog.

“She still can jump and run and play often and it doesn’t make her any slower,” a statement from her rescue reads. “She is very into people and will be most happy having her own family.”

A Loving Companion for the Right Home

Laika is reported to be excellent with children, men, women, and even strangers. She greets visitors to the garden with excitement rather than fear and adores cuddles and attention. She is already accustomed to walking on a lead and can be trusted off-lead, reliably returning when called. Her carers describe her as “totally fearless” and believe she could adapt to almost any household due to her easy-going temperament.

Adopters Focus on Missing Leg

Despite her affectionate personality, Laika continues to be overlooked by adopters who focus on her missing leg. Animal lovers have rallied behind her on social media, urging people not to judge her appearance. Comments on a rehoming post include: “She is so beautiful,” “I hope she finds a home soon,” and “Good luck Laika. Hope you find your forever home.”

Laika is currently searching for a loving home in the UK with someone who can look beyond her disability and see a young dog eager to be loved. Those interested in rehoming her can submit their interest at miraclesmission.org.
