In a moment that left both the studio and viewers at home reeling, television presenter Katie Piper shared a truly shocking confession about her first pregnancy on Thursday's episode of ITV's Loose Women.
A Midnight Craving Gone Horribly Wrong
The 42-year-old star, who is married to Richard Sutton, recounted a bizarre incident from over a decade ago when she was expecting her eldest child. Struck by a powerful craving for chocolate in the middle of the night, Katie ventured downstairs to a small cupboard where she had stored some Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
"I had a craving for a pleasurable energy boost," Katie explained to her fellow panellists Kaye Adams, Myleene Klass, and Nadia Sawalha. Unbeknownst to her, the cupboard had a small hole at the back. Due to her husband's nut allergy, the chocolates had been tucked away there.
The Grisly Discovery
Upon opening the cupboard, Katie found a distressing scene. The foil wrappers were scattered, and only chocolate shavings remained. Assuming her husband had eaten around the nuts, she decided to satisfy her craving by consuming the remnants.
"It tasted so metallic and weird," she recalled, initially blaming her altered sense of taste on pregnancy. It was only the next morning, after confronting her confused husband, that the horrifying truth emerged. The couple discovered they had a mouse infestation, and Katie realised she had not been eating chocolate shavings at all.
"I had eaten mice poo," she stated bluntly, sending waves of shock across the panel. Co-star Myleene Klass was left staring open-mouthed, while Nadia Sawalha's eyes widened in disbelief.
Aftermath and Relief
Katie was quick to clarify the scale of her accidental consumption. "I don't just mean a dab, either. I hoovered it up," she admitted. Naturally concerned for her unborn child, she underwent a series of extra scans to check everything was okay, relieved to confirm both her daughters are now perfectly healthy.
The revelation prompted a swift and humorous end to the show, with anchor Kaye Adams joking that Katie was off to "hunt down some mice." The story also sparked a strong reaction on social media, with one viewer writing on X: "Eating mouse s***. What a wonderful thing to hear when you're having lunch!"
The confession came shortly after Katie and Richard celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary towards the end of last year. Reflecting on their marriage, she has previously spoken about the realities of long-term commitment, describing it as a "practice you have to choose to keep doing."
