Singer Meghan Trainor has candidly discussed the specific health issue that became the catalyst for her notable weight loss and fitness transformation, a journey that began during her second pregnancy.
The Health Diagnosis That Changed Everything
In a recent interview with Kayla Thomas on iHeart Radio's KIISFM, the 'All About That Bass' hitmaker revealed that her path to wellness started when she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes while pregnant. This condition, as defined by the Cleveland Clinic, occurs during pregnancy when blood sugar levels become excessively high.
Trainor first spoke about her body transformation back in April, detailing in an Instagram post that she had 'worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer'. She also acknowledged using scientific support, giving a 'shoutout to Mounjaro!' to aid her after her second pregnancy.
Navigating Backlash and a New Fitness Regime
The singer has faced unexpected criticism from fans regarding her changed appearance. 'I'm getting a lot of hate online just posting who I am,' Trainor shared, noting comments like, 'Why are you thin now? You were 'All About That Bass' girl.' She responded by clarifying, 'I was 19 when I came out with that, and I've been in a fitness journey since I got healthy.'
Her motivation, however, remained deeply personal. Her goals were practical: to be able to tour energetically and to lift her children 'out of their cribs without pulling [my] back.' This focus led to a dedicated routine where she now does strength training three times a week. 'I am so focused on health and now I'm obsessed with my hormones, my gut,' the 'Dear Future Husband' singer explained. 'I just want to feel good because this job is hard if you don't feel good.'
A Shared Journey with Husband Daryl Sabara
Trainor's health journey became a family affair. On an April episode of her 'Workin' On It' podcast, she disclosed that after the birth of their son, Riley, she and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, completed the 75 Hard lifestyle challenge. Subsequently, after hearing positive reviews from friends and doctors, they both began using the medication Mounjaro.
Trainor, whose research led her to choose Mounjaro (the brand name for Tirzepatide) for its fewer side effects, emphasised that she consulted her doctor thoroughly. 'I could do that, but when I asked my doctor, I was like, 'Tell me everything.' I did the research, and I felt safe,' she said.
Sabara joined in, noting he had gained 'sympathy pregnancy weight' during her pregnancies with their two sons, Riley and Barry. 'Daryl and I both do everything together. And we started that journey,' Trainor confirmed. The couple stated they are on the 'lowest dose' of Mounjaro and continue to prioritise frequent workouts and healthy eating as part of their long-term health strategy.
