Blue Bloods Star Alex Duong Passes Away at 42 Following Rare Cancer Battle

Alex Duong, a comedian and actor best recognised for his appearances on the television series Blue Bloods, has tragically died at the age of 42. The talented performer passed away on Saturday after succumbing to septic shock, which followed a prolonged and courageous struggle against a rare and aggressive form of cancer known as alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma.

A Hopeful Final Message Before His Death

In the weeks leading up to his untimely death, Duong remained optimistic about his recovery. His final Instagram post, dated January 28, featured a reposted video from his friend Chris Tran, who manages the Little Saigon, Westminster Instagram account. In the video, Tran appealed to fans for support as Duong's health deteriorated significantly.

Tran explained in the video: 'I just found out my boy Alex, he’s been battling eye cancers, quite a while... and it was going good and he recently had a seizure. And the thing with the seizure, they found out he has something in his spine, man.' In a heartbreaking response, Duong commented with determination: 'I will walk out of here.'

Confirmation of Death and Medical Details

Hilarie Steele, a close family friend, confirmed to TMZ on Sunday that Duong died early Saturday at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica. His death was a direct result of septic shock that occurred the night before. Duong was initially diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft-tissue cancer, after experiencing severe headaches behind his eye.

The diagnosis led to intensive treatments, including the use of an eye patch, but the cancer continued to progress relentlessly. In early 2025, the malignant mass behind his eye ultimately caused him to lose vision in his left eye and accumulated over $400,000 in medical debt.

Fundraising Efforts and Personal Background

A GoFundMe campaign was established by Hilarie Steele to assist Duong in his journey to regain his sight. Following his passing, the campaign is now accepting donations to support his wife, Cristina, and their five-year-old daughter, Everest. Duong was a prominent figure in the Los Angeles comedy scene, working both as a performer and a door guy at the world-famous Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.

Born the youngest of six children to Vietnamese and Chinese parents, Duong grew up in Dallas, Texas, before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. His diverse career encompassed stand-up comedy, acting, and writing, with notable credits including Netflix's Historical Roast, CBS's Blue Bloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings. He had been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009.

Legacy and Community Impact

Despite the grim prognosis and the debilitating effects of chemotherapy, Duong continued to perform and advocate for himself, earning widespread admiration from the comedy community and fans across the globe. His resilience and positive attitude in the face of such a challenging illness left a lasting impression on all who knew him or followed his career.
