BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James has completed his 1,000km tandem cycling challenge for Comic Relief, raising more than £4 million. The breakfast show host set off from Weymouth, Dorset, last Friday, cycling through England, Wales and Scotland to finish at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
Along the route, special guests including comedian Joe Lycett, fellow Radio 1 host Jamie Laing, and The Prince of Wales joined him on the second saddle. Jamie Laing notably wore lingerie as a forfeit after Greg smashed an earlier fundraising target.
An emotional Greg told fellow presenter Jack Saunders: "It's been such a struggle at times but everyone has got me through it. The thing I'll remember the most is seeing the joy from everyone and pushing through the pain to get to that joy."
The challenge raised £4,041,910, a record for Radio 1's annual charity event. Highlights included a fly-past by the Red Arrows on the day Prince William joined the ride. Messages of support came from F1 driver Lando Norris, Coldplay's Chris Martin, comedian Bob Mortimer, and singer Nick Jonas.
This was Greg's third Comic Relief challenge in 10 years, following five triathlons in five days and climbing three mountains. He decided to proceed with the cycle after his father suffered a stroke following heart surgery. On the final morning, his mother sent a message saying they were "beyond proud".
