Claudia Winkleman, the presenter of The Traitors and former Strictly Come Dancing host, has opened up about several health struggles she has faced over the years. The 54-year-old TV star, who celebrates her birthday today, has spoken candidly about her ongoing battle with myopia, a chronic eye condition that has left her unable to read properly.
In an interview with Gabby Logan on the Mid-Point podcast, Winkleman revealed she has undergone multiple eye operations, including a lens replacement. She explained that her severe astigmatism, with a prescription of minus 16, has now resulted in long-sightedness, making reading difficult even with glasses. She admitted to being 'embarrassed' by her poor eyesight, which also affects her ability to read an autocue at work.
Aside from her vision problems, Winkleman has also spoken about her poor posture, which she says has left her 'falling apart'. She revealed that she has never stood up straight and is now working with a Pilates instructor to strengthen her core and back muscles. She described her body as 'made entirely of crepe' and said she has been told she has never used her latissimus dorsi muscles.
In a lighter revelation, Winkleman confessed to having Invisalign braces as part of what she called a 'mid-life crisis'. She told the Emma Guns Show in 2018 that her teeth suddenly became crooked, prompting her to get the invisible aligners, which she said she was 'slightly in love with'.
Winkleman continues to front The Traitors, with the current season's finale airing next Friday. She is also set to host her own BBC chat show this spring.
