Singer Lola Young has cancelled all upcoming performances after collapsing on stage in New York, citing a need to prioritise her mental health and address substance abuse issues. The 24-year-old south London artist was in the midst of promoting her new album I’m Only F**king Myself when the incident occurred at the All Things Go Festival.
Young collapsed during a performance of her song Conceited, appearing to keel over backwards after trying to attract someone's attention. Audience members described the scene as frightening, with one posting on X: “I just watched Lola Young collapse mid song and get dragged off stage like a corpse.” Prior to the collapse, Young told the crowd she had been having “a tricky couple of days” due to a “sensitive matter”.
In a statement, Young said: “I'm going away for a while. It pains me to say I have to cancel everything for the foreseeable future.” She promised refunds and thanked fans for their support, adding: “I really hope you'll give me a second chance once I've had some time to work on myself and come back stronger.”
Young has a history of health struggles, including a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder at age 17, which combines bipolar mood symptoms with schizophrenia-like psychosis. She has also been diagnosed with ADHD. In a 2022 interview, she linked her condition to heavy cannabis use following an undisclosed childhood trauma. More recently, she completed a five-week stint in rehab for cocaine “dependence” in November 2024, but relapsed over the summer and returned to treatment.
Her manager, Nick Shymansky, who previously worked with Amy Winehouse, said he had made it clear Young could cancel performances at any time to protect her wellbeing. The cancellation comes after a gruelling schedule of 31 shows, including a UK tour and North American dates, which fans had criticised as overly demanding.
