Doctor Warns Rising Temperatures Spike Cystitis Risk

Brits enjoying milder weather are being warned that climbing temperatures could bring an unwelcome side effect: a seasonal surge in cystitis. Experts say heat, humidity and lifestyle shifts combine to create the 'perfect storm' for painful bladder issues.

Dr Janine David, women's health expert and adviser to Effercitrate Tablets, explained: 'It might only be spring, but temperatures are already heating up. Heat and humidity, combined with more outdoor activity, can create the perfect conditions for urinary tract infections such as cystitis.' Around 50-60% of women and 12-14% of men experience a UTI at least once, with hospital admissions peaking between May and October.

Symptoms include burning or stinging when urinating, lower tummy pain, cloudy or strong-smelling urine, a frequent urge to urinate, and a high temperature. Dr David advises simple lifestyle adjustments to reduce risk: break up long periods of sitting, stay hydrated, take action quickly with over-the-counter remedies, practise safe sex, and wear cotton underwear.
