Man Returns from Death After Life Support Ends, Describes Divine Encounter

Gene Long, a 33-year-old construction worker from Florida, has shared an extraordinary account of what he witnessed during an hour-long period when he was clinically dead after his life support was disconnected. His story offers a vivid glimpse into what he believes awaits on the "other side."

A Descent into Darkness and a Miraculous Awakening

Long's ordeal began in 2020, when severe diabetes, combined with addiction to meth and fentanyl, left him homeless and in a desperate state. He described feeling as though his life had already ended, questioning the existence and goodness of God during this turbulent period.

Neglecting his health led to a catastrophic spike in his blood sugar to 1,900—a level typically fatal, as normal readings hover around 100. The last thing he recalls is walking past a set of steps before suffering a seizure, falling, and hitting his head, which caused a brain bleed and plunged him into unconsciousness.

Medics placed him in a two-month-long coma, giving him less than a one percent chance of survival. With no hope of recovery, his parents made the heart-wrenching decision to end his life support, offering his organs for donation and planning his funeral. Over thirty people, including family and close friends, gathered in his hospital room to say their final goodbyes.

Miraculously, just over an hour later, Long suddenly awoke with no signs of illness, leaving everyone in shock. "They were in total shock. My parents had literally just signed the papers to let me go," he recounted.

A Colourful Ocean of Light and a Spiritual Meeting

During the time he was declared dead, Long describes opening his eyes to find himself walking on a sea of energy, featuring every colour imaginable, with lights pelting across it. "It was like I had just woken up from a nap. The ocean had every colour imaginable going through it, like they were alive, with lights pelting across. And it wasn't made of water; it was just energy," he said.

He felt as though he had always been in this place, with no memory of Earth. Mist and vines swirled around him, and he became one with the environment, feeling a sense of divinity. "I felt like God," he expressed.

Long then spotted a figure resembling his late grandfather, but upon closer encounter, he realized it was not his grandpa at all. "It was the Holy Spirit," he revealed. The being, composed entirely of light with no face, radiated an overwhelming force of love. "When I saw him, I was struck by the most powerful love I have ever felt in my entire life. It was beyond human language," Long shared.

Although no words were exchanged, Long felt he knew the answer to everything. They kneeled together, vibrating to create a crystal footstool, and his earthly troubles vanished, leaving only positive aspects behind. He then blinked and was "zapped" back to reality in his hospital bed.

A Road to Recovery and a Transformed Life

Doctors were baffled by his awakening, as they had predicted he would never walk or talk again if he survived. His kidneys, liver, and brain had been failing, and he was full of infection, with funeral arrangements already in place.

Despite a long and challenging recovery—including damage to his vocal chords from the life support tube and a missing piece of his ear from a bedsore, which he calls his "ticket to Heaven"—Long has made a remarkable turnaround. His organs recovered without dialysis, and his diabetes went into remission, no longer requiring insulin.

Most significantly, his addiction has completely ended. "Since my return, I have never felt the need to use drugs. I knew God had given me a second chance and I wasn't going to ruin it," he stated. He has rebuilt his life, reconnected with his family, and now shares his story to inspire others facing rock bottom.

"It's reshaped how I see life—and what comes after we're gone. Death isn't the end. And what feels like home is closer than people think," Long concluded, offering a message of hope and spiritual insight from his near-death experience.
