Music icon Barry Manilow has delivered an uplifting health update and surprised fans with new concert announcements, just weeks after undergoing surgery for lung cancer.
From Diagnosis to Recovery: A Health Journey
The 82-year-old 'Copacabana' singer first revealed his diagnosis just days before Christmas. He explained that doctors had discovered a cancerous spot on his lung after he suffered two prolonged bouts of bronchitis. His physician ordered an MRI as a precaution, which Manilow credited with the early detection, calling it 'pure luck'.
In a social media post on December 22, Manilow told his followers he would be taking a break to focus on his recovery. He confirmed he would undergo surgery to remove the spot, stating that doctors believed it had not spread and that he would not require chemotherapy or radiation treatment. He humorously outlined his recovery plan, mentioning 'chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns'.
A Surprising and Positive Turn
This week, the entertainer shared a dramatically positive update via Instagram. The post enthusiastically declared, 'SURPRISE!!! Barry is feeling great…so great that he’s decided to add six additional concerts to his existing March schedule.'
The newly announced shows will see Manilow visit Charlotte, Norfolk, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Lexington in March. The announcement carried a poignant note, hinting at the tour's significance: 'Years from now, when you look back on these dates, you’ll want to know you were there to say goodbye.'
Rescheduled Dates and a Lifelong Habit
As a result of his necessary recovery period, the singer was forced to postpone a series of US arena concerts originally scheduled for January 2026. Those dates, which included stops in Orlando, Tampa, and Columbus, are now being rescheduled. Manilow expressed his regret to fans for the disruption to their plans.
The star has been open about his history as a longtime smoker, having previously told the London Evening Standard he started at the age of nine. In recent years, he has switched to vaping and was photographed vaping in Palm Springs just weeks ago. A cancerous lung nodule, while often benign, requires careful evaluation due to its association with lung cancer.
Concluding his December message with a public health plea, Manilow urged his fans: 'I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and remember, if you even have the slightest symptom, get tested!' His latest update confirms a successful treatment and a triumphant return to the stage.
