Television presenter Davina McCall and her husband, celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas, have shared an intimate and emotional account of their tumultuous 2025, expressing renewed hope as they step into the new year.
A Year That 'Broke' Michael Douglas
During the latest episode of their shared podcast, 'Making the Cut', the couple reflected on the profound challenges they faced. Michael Douglas, 49, became visibly emotional as he described the past twelve months as the most difficult of his life. "I think it was so hard. It broke me really," he admitted. "I would say by November, I was done. I just thought, 'I don't think I can recover from this.'"
However, Douglas conveyed a powerful sense of recovery and optimism for 2026. He told listeners, "And I cannot tell you how good I feel….It’s the best I’ve felt for as long as I can remember." McCall, 58, was quick to offer her support, replying warmly, "But you have, and you are amazing."
Davina McCall's Health Journey and a 'Supermoons' Shift
The couple's difficult year was marked significantly by Davina McCall's health struggles. The former Big Brother host underwent surgery to remove a benign brain tumour, which was followed not long after by a breast cancer diagnosis.
In a positive update earlier this month, McCall revealed she had completed her course of radiotherapy treatment. Sharing the news on Instagram, she described the day as "very, very emotional." She also spoke candidly about the post-holiday period, acknowledging the challenge of maintaining momentum after the festive buzz subsides.
Discussing a perceived shift in energy since the start of 2026, McCall pointed to celestial events surrounding their December wedding. "Ever since the 1st of January everything has changed…It was the supermoons…we got married and it was the supermoons," she remarked, referring to the supermoon sighting on January 3.
Finding Contentment and Looking Ahead
Despite the immense challenges, Davina McCall has publicly expressed a deep sense of peace and happiness. Speaking at HELLO! magazine's Inaugural Power List event just weeks after her initial breast surgery, she offered a poignant perspective on life.
"I’m grateful for every minute, because I know it might go, and I’m all right with that," she said. "I'm the happiest I have ever been. I’m in such a good space. And it's age that’s given me that, because it is experience; you don’t get the experience without ageing."
The couple, who married in December 2025, are now looking forward with a united and hopeful outlook. Fans can next see Davina McCall in her role as a panellist on ITV's The Masked Singer, which airs at 7pm on Saturday, January 17.
