Crosshouse Volunteers Donate £300,000 to NHS Ayrshire & Arran

The Hospital Volunteers of University Hospital Crosshouse presented NHS Ayrshire & Arran with a cheque for £300,000 at their Annual General Meeting, bringing the total raised since 2001 to over £5.575 million. For more than 25 years, hundreds of volunteers have run the hospital shop, café, and ward trolley service, contributing time and compassion to support patients, visitors, and staff.

Impact of Fundraising

The funds have enabled investment in initiatives and equipment that directly improve patient care and comfort, including reminiscence interactive therapy and activities for dementia patients, specialist equipment for bowel surgery, and the Road to Recovery wall in the stroke unit. Lesley Bowie, Chair of Ayrshire and Arran NHS Board, praised the volunteers: "Their kindness, dedication and commitment make a difference every single day, whether they are welcoming visitors, supporting patients or helping staff."

Volunteer Recognition

Bowie added, "For many people arriving at the hospital, our volunteers provide the first friendly face they see. Their warmth, compassion and professionalism help create a positive and reassuring experience." She noted that raising over £5.575 million is an extraordinary achievement, thanking all 246 volunteers for their invaluable contribution.
