Savannah Guthrie Confirms Today Show Return Date After Vocal Surgery
Savannah Guthrie sets Today show return date after surgery

Savannah Guthrie has officially confirmed when viewers can expect to see her back at the desk on NBC's Today show following a period of absence due to vocal cord surgery.

Recovery and a Silent Announcement

The 54-year-old co-host made a special, albeit silent, appearance on the programme on January 12. Unable to speak as she continues her recovery, Guthrie used a whiteboard and gestures to communicate with her colleagues. She clearly mouthed to the audience that she would be returning to sit alongside Craig Melvin 'next week'.

This means fans can welcome her back to Studio 1A at New York City's Rockefeller Center from January 19. Guthrie has been absent from the broadcast since mid-December, when she began a planned hiatus to address long-standing issues with her voice.

The Reason Behind the Hiatus

Guthrie first revealed her diagnosis to viewers during the December 19 episode. She explained that she had developed vocal cord nodules and a polyp that required surgical removal. "Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit," she said at the time.

"Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It's not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have a surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks," Guthrie stated, adding that she would need to be on complete vocal rest afterwards.

The journalist expressed relief at finally having a solution after years of dealing with the unexplained vocal problems, calling the diagnosis something she was "really excited" about.

A Positive Recovery Journey

On January 5, Guthrie shared an encouraging health update via Instagram, posting a selfie with a whiteboard that read, "All good! Thanks for prayers and love!" She captioned the photo, "See you soon!" confirming her surgery had been successful.

During her January 12 visit, she used her trusty whiteboard to list the activities keeping her busy while on vocal rest, including journaling, reading, and painting. She humorously noted that the experience was helping her grow "as a human," to which Craig Melvin warmly replied, "You were already a pretty great human before!"

Guthrie also shared a charming anecdote from her children, Charley and Vale, who told her, "even when you're quiet, you're still loud." With her recovery going well, the Today show team and its audience eagerly await her full return to the airwaves next week.
