Isabel Walker, a former journalist and charity co-founder, has embarked on a new career in colour analysis at the age of 72. The idea came after she accompanied her daughter for a colour analysis session and the specialist suggested she should do the work herself. Despite initial reluctance, Walker trained earlier this year and now runs her own business in Watford, Hertfordshire, specialising in post-menopausal women and mother-daughter sessions.
Walker describes this as her fourth career, all of which have come about by chance. She previously worked as a journalist, co-founded the charity Action on Preeclampsia, and spent 15 years in communications skills training. She says she never regrets decisions and was feeling restless before starting the colour analysis business, as she has no desire to retire.
Working with colour has been transformative for Walker herself. She discovered she is an autumn season, not a winter as previously thought, and has switched to softer colours, getting rid of black. She finds the work rewarding, noting that it combines her love of clothes and colour with an analytical process that makes a difference to clients.
