Charlize Theron has shared the secret to her youthful glow at the age of 50. The Apex actress revealed she has been using a red light therapy mask for the last two years, and it has worked better than 'any lotion or cream' because she has seen real results.
Red light masks should generally be worn for 10 to 20 minutes per session, three to five times per week. At-home red light therapy masks generally range from $50 to $600. These masks make you look younger by using low-level, non-invasive wavelengths to penetrate the skin, stimulating fibroblasts to increase collagen and elastin production.
During an appearance on the Will and Woody podcast, Theron was asked how she maintains her looks and replied: 'Red light,' before joking: 'That and the blood of a 19-year-old.'
She went on to explain: 'Basically, I live in a red light mask at all times. I will walk off the set and put a red light mask. I just love them. I think it's the only thing I've done in the last two years that, more than any lotion or cream or anything like that, where I've been like, wow, I can actually see a difference.'
The ex-girlfriend of Sean Penn added: 'So get better genes, steal some blood from a 19-year-old, red light.'
The Monster star previously opened up about her beauty regime, revealing she has an 'evening routine' she always sticks to after her two young daughters go to bed. Theron told ELLE magazine: 'It's both high- and low-maintenance. I'm very religious about my evening routine, because when my kids go to bed, I can take time for myself. I'll take a nice hot steam and shower, and really spend time with my skin, perhaps I'll do a face mask or maybe a laser device. I use a toner, a serum and the really rich Dior Capture cream. My evening routine is sacred to me, and then in the morning, it's really just about rinsing all of the products off and applying a lot of sunscreen.'
She went on to name the products she would take if stranded on a desert island, adding: 'SPF, a really good moisturizer, and good lip balm. Those are probably the things that you would actually need on an island. I'd love an eyelash curler, but who's really going care about that, right?'
The Hollywood icon also credited a regular exercise regime of Pilates and yoga classes with helping her look and feel good.
