The Royal Windsor Horse Show became a family affair on Saturday as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were seen turning to their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, for assistance. Lady Louise, 22, is working as a paid first concierge service at the event in Berkshire.
Lady Louise's Role
Lady Louise, who studies English at the University of St Andrews, was spotted wearing a hi-vis bib, official lanyard, and a navy fedora with feathers. She pointed directions to her father, Prince Edward, who wore a brown herringbone blazer, dark tailored trousers, a lavender shirt, and a purple and green striped tie. The Duchess of Edinburgh smiled alongside her husband, dressed in layers against the cold weather.
Event director Nick Brooks-Ward praised Lady Louise, telling Vanity Fair: 'She is one of the chief organizers, essentially operating a first concierge service. She is a great worker and a real asset to the team with no airs or graces. It is a proper paid job and there is no special treatment because of who she is.'
Tragic Incident
The royal couple's attendance followed the tragic death of a soldier from the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, who fell from a horse and died on Friday evening. King Charles said he was 'greatly shocked and saddened' by the incident. The show continued on Saturday without the King's Troop display.
Thames Valley Police are investigating the death, which is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the King will contact the family to share his personal condolences.
King Charles's Attendance
King Charles arrived on Saturday morning wearing a Harris tweed jacket and carrying a walking stick. He met members of the troop alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh. The King had been present at the arena when the incident occurred but was not immediately aware of its severity.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show, first staged in 1943 to raise funds for World War II, is a favorite among royals and was beloved by the late Queen Elizabeth II. It is the only time the private grounds of Windsor Castle are open to the public.
