The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued urgent recall notices for several popular products sold in UK stores, including Dunelm, Asda, and Sainsbury's. Affected items include doorstops, children's craft kits, and Thermos-branded travel mugs, which may pose serious health or safety risks.
Dunelm has recalled 27 doorstops sold between January 2019 and February 2026 due to potential asbestos contamination. The sand inside the doorstops may contain small amounts of asbestos, a banned substance that poses health risks even at low exposure levels. Customers are advised to stop using the products and dispose of them in heavy-duty plastic bags, double-bagged and taped securely, or return them to Dunelm for a full refund.
Two Crayola-branded craft kits, the Touchy Feely Craft Box and Discovery Craft Box, have also been recalled due to asbestos risk. Sold by retailers including Asda, Sainsbury's, and The Works, the kits contain sand that may be contaminated. The OPSS urges owners to stop using them immediately and keep them away from children. Affected items should be double-bagged and returned to the retailer for refund instructions.
Additionally, over eight million Thermos-branded travel mugs and food jars have been recalled in the US, with the alert also affecting UK consumers. The recall covers Stainless King food jars and Sportsman food and beverage bottles. A fault can cause the lid stopper to violently eject when opened, leading to serious injuries including burns and blindness. Customers are advised to stop using the products and contact Thermos for a free replacement lid.
