Australia to Deploy Surveillance Aircraft and Missiles to Gulf Region
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Australia will send a surveillance aircraft, air-to-air missiles, and supporting personnel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in response to a request from President Mohamed bin Zayed. This move aims to protect and defend civilians, particularly the 24,000 Australians living in the region, following Iranian missile attacks on areas of Dubai.

An E7 Wedgetail aircraft will be deployed for an initial period of four weeks to provide long-range reconnaissance capabilities, helping to secure the airspace above the Gulf. Additionally, Australia intends to supply advanced, medium-range air-to-air missiles to the UAE. The deployment includes Australian Defence Force personnel to support these operations.
Albanese emphasized that this assistance is focused on collective self-defence for Gulf nations and is not an offensive action against Iran. He stated, "My government has been clear that we're not taking offensive action against Iran, and we've been clear that we are not deploying Australian troops on the ground in Iran." The prime minister highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of Australians and assist travelers in leaving the Middle East if necessary.
