The Royal Navy's prestigious annual photography competition has once again brought to light the diverse and dynamic operations of the fleet across the world. This year's remarkable entries include dramatic scenes of Royal Marines executing a night raid on an Arctic inlet and a commando boat team racing across Sydney Harbour at sunset, capturing the essence of naval excellence.
The competition, affectionately known as the Peregrines among sailors, honours the men and women who meticulously document every aspect of naval life. From rigorous training exercises and ceremonial duties to international collaborations and front-line missions, these photographers work tirelessly to showcase the Senior Service's global reach and operational prowess.
Celebrating Photographic Excellence
Petty Officer Alexandra 'Alex' Ceolin from Plymouth has been crowned the Royal Navy's top photographer for the past twelve months. Her exceptional portfolio, focusing on the UK Commando Forces, earned her this distinguished title. Additionally, she accepted the coveted Peregrine Trophy on behalf of her two-person team, recognising them as the best photographic unit in the Navy for their outstanding work over the year.
Hailing from Newcastle, Alex has dedicated twelve years of service to her country. She began her career as a communications specialist aboard the frigate HMS Somerset before transitioning to photography, where her talent has flourished. Her images provide a compelling glimpse into the challenging environments and high-stakes operations undertaken by naval personnel.
